Tired of chapped lips?
Chapped lips are the cause of factors such as harsh weather, dehydration and in some cases licking your lips.
So, what to do in case of chapped lips?
#1. During winters we tend to reduce our water intake, which is one of the main causes of chapped lips. You must make sure that you stay hydrated.
#2. Don’t lick your lips, saliva dries the moisture of your skin. Enzymes in saliva irritate the skin and dry it further,
#3. Applying balms and oils overnight are highly beneficial as the body repairs itself at night and so promotes repair.
#4. Avoid balms that contain eucalyptus, camphor or menthol as they promote dryness and chapped lips which would make the problem worse.
#5. Remove makeup before sleeping and make sure there is no trace of makeup, use a damp cotton ball to wipe your lips clean.
Lip products often contain ingredients that cause harm to your lips than healing them.
Some commonly used ingredients in lip products are
Parabens: These are preservatives that are commonly used in products as preservatives but have harmful effects such as hormonal dysfunction.
Artificial flavours: Cosmetic companies need not state their ingredients in this case as they can be termed as ‘trade secrets’, but flavours most commonly contain phthalates that are strong hormone disruptors and can aggravate allergy and asthma symptoms.
Chemical sunscreen: Chemicals used in sunscreen that help it absorb the UV rays to prevent skin damage can cause harm to the body and in some cases lead to skin cancer.
